At different stages in the creation and maturity of a product, different metrics will have a different level of importance to the business. In Product Operations, it is important to know what information to be tracking to support our teams, or supporting them in tracking the right information at the right time for the right reasons. This is not an exhaustive list by any means, but the one most common for Product Ops to focus on, on behalf of the teams they partner with across the business.
In the beginning… (Product Launch)
Activation: You need users of the product, so getting them onboard, and quickly is important. Measurements such as new users, number of users, and activation time will be key.
Revenue: Your business needs money coming in, and if a startup you may be running hand to mouth. Revenue will have different angles of importance throughout the lifecycle of the product. It may also be that revenue from your early customers is not as important as building the volume quickly, but this is specific to each business.
