Hello, and welcome to Practical Product Ops.
It is January 2024 at the time of publication, and my first post on this brand new site. I have spent the last 3 years of my life living, breathing, inventing, designing and building Product Operations across several organisations, hosting and guesting on podcasts, panels and live events on stage.
2023 was a difficult year in the tech industry (in fact it was horrific), and Product Operations that was finding its feet took a few knocks along the way. That being said, interpretations of the role gradually settled around a rough specification, and impressions of the role were steadily more positive.
There is still much work to do in supporting those in role, coming into the role and those interested or experimenting with Product Ops in their organisation. More still is needed to provide robust evidence of the value of Product Ops to business leadership, and overall awareness of ‘what it is all about’.
I am kicking off this site as a home for the resources I build, that continue the development of the practise of Product Operations. These resources, across written, audio & video, will always focus on the practical application and implementation of Product Operations, with real life situations and scenarios adapted from my experiences on the ground.
I have always been very practical, plain, direct - and that is what you will get. Sure, there will be discussions on new ideas, trends, emerging patterns from key areas around the world, but I am to focus outcomes on something you, anybody, can actually use today, anywhere.
I’m writing this as much for an introduction to you, as it is a marker in the ground to return to in a year, 2 years, 5 years and see what has changed! Any predictions?
Graham
